Carnival Cruise Line pulled back the curtain on its next class of ship, disclosing that the 180,000-gross ton Mardi Gras due in 2020 will be large enough to have six named design zones.
The ship’s offerings will include Grand Central, the French Quarter, La Piazza, Summer Landing, Lido and the Ultimate Playground.
Carnival said it will have more than 20 stateroom categories and the most expansive open decks on any Carnival ship.
Grand Central will include three-deck-high floor-to-ceiling windows and a bar overlooking the starboard side of the ship.
At the center of the ship, spanning Decks 6 to 8 will be Grand Central, an atrium with three-deck-high floor-to-ceiling windows and a bar overlooking the starboard side of the ship.
Accessible from Grand Central will be an expanded Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki, as well as a Piano Bar 88 piano bar and the first ever dedicated Punchliner Comedy Club.
A new area for Carnival will be the French Quarter on Deck 6 aft. It will include a jazz club with live entertainment and handcrafted drinks.
The Mardi Gras will also have a French Quarter zone that will come with a new celebrity partnership that will be revealed later. It will have bars, restaurants and music, plus be linked by a two-deck-high promenade to a traditional New Orleans jazz club with live entertainment and handcrafted drinks.
In La Piazza, Carnival said guests will be transported to Italy via a cappuccino bar, roaming musicians and Carnival’s Italian restaurants Cucina del Capitano and Pizzeria del Capitano.
On Deck 8 aft, Carnival will create Summer Landing, a new home for Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse. Similar to the Havana Cabana area on Vista-class ships, it will have a pool and hot tubs and a bar, along with lounging and hanging out space.
Lido will be the traditional but expanded location for Guy’s Burger Joint, the Seafood Shack, Blue Iguana Cantina Mexican eatery, plus some new food concepts to be announced at a later date.
Up top on Decks 18 to 20, guests will find the Ultimate Playground, which will include the most elaborate Carnival WaterWorks aqua park in the fleet, along with an expanded SportSquare and the unprecedented 40-mph Bolt roller coaster.
Mardi Gras reservations open Jan. 30. It will sail in 2020 from Port Canaveral in central Florida.
