How a COVID-safe event was successfully held in Barcelona

In Barcelona’s Sala Apolo venue, something incredible happened in December 2020. Amidst a pandemic, a live music event took place where attendants did not even practice social distancing. Worrying you say? Not really. Primavera Sound, one of the most popular music events in Europe has successfully held a COVID-safe event, all thanks to same day COVD-19 screening.

A total of 463 people attended the event, and each and every attendee was required to undergo a COVID-19 test. Needless to say that they had to get a negative result in order to attend the concert. The whole process was so swift, that the result showed up in 15 minutes. The event was a trial run to check whether such an event in a world struck by COVID-19 is at all possible. It has been a resounding success.

The event was brought together with the help of AIDS and Infectious Diseases Foundation, along with the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, and Primavera Sound.

The attendees were between 18 and 59 years of age. Out of the 496 people in the control group, 2 were found to be infected, but all 463 attendees were not infected. None of the participants suffered from any underlying conditions either.

Going forward, Primavera Sound is looking to host an event on June 2-6, 2021 in Barcelona, and another one in Los Angeles from September 18-19, 2021. Hopefully we will be in a much better place by then.
