Jammu & Kashmir: Snowfall expected soon, temperature to take a dip

Weather in Jammu & Kashmir is expected to take a turn with predictions of snowfall in this week. The same has been predicted by Indian Meteorological Department, which has also predicted snowfall in the upper reaches of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Most of the regions in North India experienced dry but cold weather over the weekend even as the mercury hovered above normal in most parts. In J&K, Gulmarg and Baltal also recorded sub-zero temperature, with Baltal recording a minimum of -4.8 degree Celsius.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 11.4 degree Celsius on Sunday; however, a dip in temperature is expected in the capital and around. It has been predicted keeping in mind a western disturbance that is also expected to trigger snowfall in parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Fog is also expected to accompany snowfall as per the predictions.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in most of Himachal Pradesh as Keylong stayed as the coldest place in the state. The Met office has predicted rainfall as well snow in the middle and higher reaches of the state.

The weather prediction is expected to boost tourism in Kashmir, which has been flailing for almost eight months now, owing to the COVID outbreak. In fact, Srinagar airport recorded a surge in the number of arrivals in November after a rather bleak year.
