Keylong in Himachal Pradesh sees first snow of season; Manali-Leh highway closed

Himachal Pradesh, one of India’s most visited hill states, received season’s first snow on Saturday. Set at a high altitude in the Himalayas, Keylong in Himachal was covered in a thick white blanket of snow. According to the weather department, the minimum temperature recorded in Keylong was minus 0.8 degree Celsius.

As per a MeT department official, “High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kullu and Kinnaur districts experienced light snow in the past 24 hours.”

On the other hand, popular places like Shimla and Manali have been experiencing long sunny days. The minimum temperature recorded at
Shimla was 11.4 degrees and 4.8 degrees Celsius in Manali. Kufri, a popular tourist hub close to Shimla, recorded 9.3 degrees Celsius while Kalpa in Kinnaur district was at 2.3 degrees Celsius.

Keylong has turned all the more gorgeous and hills overlooking Manali have beautiful snow views owing to the fresh snowfall. According to the MeT department, the weather would remain dry till November 5.

Snowfall blocks Manali-Leh highway

Though the snowfall has made the hill stations all picturesque, it blocked the Manali-Leh highway on Friday night. Most vehicular movement on the Manali-Leh National Highway owing to it. Manali road and Atal Tunnel are clear and movement is normal.
