The Norwegian Dawn has completed a month-long drydock renovation and sailed into Boston on Friday, Norwegian Cruise Line said, part of the Norwegian Edge initiative, a $400 million investment in the Norwegian brand.
Norwegian said the renovation left the ship “an essentially new vessel,” with new restaurants and bars, updated public spaces and staterooms, and a makeover of the Garden Villas suites.
“Norwegian Dawn was brought down to the steel in many spaces and rebuilt to evoke the look and feel of the newest Norwegian ships,” Andy Stuart, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said in a statement.
As previously reported, the ship features Los Lobos Cantina, a new-to-the-fleet, upscale Mexican restaurant that will open July 1. Also new is O’ Sheehan’s Bar & Grill, a sports bar with pub fare.
The Venetian and Aqua, existing complimentary restaurants, have both been given a new look, as has Bamboo Asian Restaurant and the Garden Cafe.
As for its specialty restaurants, Le Bistro and La Cucina have switched locations and were updated with new decor. Moderno Churrascaria is in a new location on Deck 13, also with new decor. Teppanyaki has been doubled in size and renovated, and Cagney’s Steakhouse has been given a new, more modern look.
What was previously the Pearly King Pub was renovated and changed into The Cellars, a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar, an upscale wine bar. On Deck 13 next to Moderno Churrascaria is Sugarcane Mojito Bar, where guests can enjoy mojitos in a lounge area. Spinnaker Lounge was changed into Bliss Lounge, which was updated with new bar fronts, furniture and carpeting.
Gatsby’s Champagne Bar and the Cigar Bar, existing bars and lounges on the ship, also received some upgrades, like new flooring.

All staterooms got new carpets, bedding, drapery, furniture and televisions, and the two Garden Villas were re-done with “a more clean and modern look,” Norwegian said.
Public spaces and the Atrium all got a facelift, and the Norwegian Dawn has a new shop, Tides, featuring jewelry. Ports O’ Call has been renamed Tradewinds and also saw upgrades.
The ship’s library, pool deck, teen spaces, Dawn Club Casino, Stardust Theater and Mandara Spa and Pulse Fitness Center also received upgrades during the renovation, including new artwork, carpets and more, with new equipment in the gym and a barber shop, nail salon and spa pool in the spa.
Each week through October, the Norwegian Dawn will sail from Boston to Bermuda. Starting in November, the ship will sail from New Orleans to the western Caribbean.
